Call Me Blood
Director: Jon Kasbe
Search On is an episodic non-fiction series about people using Google open-source technology to do incredible things for humanity. In our last episode Call Me Blood, we follow Joseph, a blood bank delivery driver in Lagos, Nigeria, on a mission to deliver life-saving blood to pregnant mothers suffering from postpartum hemmorage. In addition to having some of the world’s worst traffic, Lagos also has the fourth highest maternal death rate. Joseph’s team Lifebank uses Google Maps to deliver life-saving blood from blood banks to hospitals in need.
Our crew of this short documentary spent a month embedded in a Lagos hospital, following six pregnant women and four LifeBank delivery riders in real-time. A director’s cut of this film entitled Blood Rider premiered at Tribeca We Are One Festival to critical acclaim.
